Product FAQs
Product FAQs
Here at Zinnia we define “fashion” jewelry as jewelry that does not contain any precious or semi-precious metals, such as sterling silver or 14k gold. However, that does not mean that fashion jewelry might not be comprised of gemstones (e.g. amber, amethyst etc), or other valuable materials (e.g. swarovski crystals, Czech glass, real leather etc). All our products will have their materials listed under the specs tab on the product pages.
Gold is measured in 24 parts called karats. Thus, gold in its purest form is 24K. 24K gold is typically far too soft to be used in the manufacture of jewelry. Instead, manufacturers add alloys to this gold to strengthen it. 18K gold is 75% pure gold whereas 14K gold is 58.3% pure gold.
There is a misconception that yellow gold is more expensive than white gold because it is “more pure,” however the true measure of gold is in its proportion to other parts, or karats, as mentioned above. Thus 14K white gold and 14K yellow gold contain the same percentage of pure gold, though they differ in the metals with which they are alloyed. White gold gets its color from its alloys, palladium and nickel.
Pure silver, like gold, is too soft to be used in the manufacture of jewelry. Instead manufacturers add alloys to this silver to strengthen it. Sterling Silver is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper (an international standard), whereas other types of silver alloys range between 80 and 90% pure silver and are mixed with a variety of alloys.
Platinum is an extremely rare element, almost 35 times rarer than gold. In most cases, platinum is 95% pure, producing its white luster and keeping it from fading or tarnishing. It is an ideal metal for individuals with sensitive skin, as the pure metal is hypoallergenic.
Titanium is an element, just like silver, gold, and platinum, but what makes it unique is that it has the highest strength to weight ratio of any element. Titanium is stronger than steel, but is over 40% lighter. Today, titanium is used in a variety of products, including space shuttles (over 85% of a space shuttle's structure is titanium). One of titanium's outstanding qualities is its high corrosion resistance, especially to oxygen. Titanium is a "white" metal with a slight charcoal gray hue.
To determine your ring size, the most accurate assessment would be done by a professional jeweler. However, in the meantime, feel free to contact us for assistance in selecting the right size at customerservice@zinniastores.com.
Comfort Fit rings have a slightly curved interior for a more comfortable wear. This is opposed to a 'Traditional Fit' ring which has a flat inner surface.

Product Care FAQs
Product Care FAQs
We value our customers, and to ensure your satisfaction continues after you have purchased our jewelry, we have developed a short list of tips on how to increase the life and wear of your jewelry.
  1. Go easy! Jewelry is often comprised of fine, working parts that do not stand up well to excessive force or rough handling
  2. When dressing, always put your jewelry on last and be sure to take your jewelry off before undressing.
  3. Likewise, wait to put on your jewelry until after using products such as hairspray or perfumes since these might strip any dyes, or react with certain metals.
  4. Avoid unnecessary scratches, breakage, or tangles by storing your jewelry separately.
  5. Do not bathe or swim with your jewelry, or at any time submerge it in water (e.g. when washing dishes).
Storage: Store your sterling silver piece in a cloth pouch to minimize scratches and exposure to air or light (which in turn leads to tarnishing).

Cleaning: Silver naturally tarnishes when exposed to sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in the air. To clean your silver piece, use a designated silver polishing cloth, like the ones found on this site or in any jewelry store. Should your silver pieces have any gemstones, be sure to check the care instructions of the cloth for a list of stones and materials that should not be exposed to the cleaning chemicals found in the cloth.

Avoid: Exposure to potent chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia, or bleach.
Storage: Store your gold piece in a cloth pouch or the original box to minimize scratches.

Cleaning: Use a detergent-free soap and warm water to soak and wash your piece with a soft toothbrush.

Avoid: Exposure to potent chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia, or bleach. Remove your gold when showering or cleaning, soap tends to add a film that will dull the piece.
Storage: Store your platinum pieces separately and with care to avoid scratches.

Cleaning: Use a detergent-free soap and warm water to soak and wash your piece with a soft toothbrush.
Storage: Always store your pewter piece in its original box and packaging. Pewter is prone to scratches, in some cases even from tissue paper!

Cleaning: Use a detergent-free soap and warm water to wash your piece. Dry the pewter with a soft, dry cloth. Never place a pewter item in the dishwasher. If your pewter piece begins to tarnish, use a polish designated to clean pewter.

Avoid: Exposure to potent chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia, or bleach. Do not use silver or brass polish unless it indicates it can be used on pewter.
